November News 2024

Welcome November!

During November, we are reminded of everything and everyone we have to be grateful for. I am so grateful for my family at home and my Sew Katie Jean Family. God has blessed me so much throughout my life, and He continues to bless me with all that I need and so much more. I hope this month you are able to see all of the blessings in your own lives and give thanks for them. Now, let's see about the happenings at Sew Katie Jean!

Holiday Hop: Nov. 1 and 2:

We are so excited to welcome you to our annual Holiday Hop this weekend! We will be open from 10-5 on Friday and 9-4 on Saturday. We are partnering with Runs With Scissors and Fabric Garden for this Shop Hop. Visit each store and have your passport stamped at each shop for a chance to win one of 3 prize baskets. You will receive 3 free patterns for 12" ornament quilt blocks at each store, for a total of 9 blocks. We will also have small kits of each block available for purchase, as well as a tablerunner kit with the 3 blocks from our shop. I will also have a special Holiday Store in our classroom for special purchases of gifty items!

November Window Block-Stockings for Foster Youth:

Once again, we are partnering with CASA-Court Appointed Special Advocates-to make stockings for over 300 foster youth in the Sacramento area. This year, we have asked our neighboring quilt stores to join us in making these stockings, so Runs With Scissors and Fabric Garden will also be making stockings, so we can reach our goal of 300 stockings. For $5 you will receive the directions to make a stocking and a fat quarter of Christmas fabric to be included in your stocking. Stockings will need to be turned in by Saturday, November 30th at 4 pm. Feel free to make more than 1 stocking!

November Classes and Clubs:

School of Sewing: Level 2 begins Tuesday, 11/5 from 5:30-8:30pm:

Rita Traxler and her helper, Jane Lowas, will be here to instruct the level 2 students in making a zip-It pillow, a tote bag, a pleated purse and placemats. If you have completed Level 1 of the School of Sewing, you are welcome to join the class. The cost is $125 for 4 sessions.

Last Class for Woodland Birds Christmas Row-by-Row is 11/7 from 10-3:

Laurie Johnson will be here to help the class members finish up their Woodland Birds Christmas Row-by-Row Quilts. They will be adding borders, quilting and binding! I can't wait to see all of their finished products. The gals chose different borders and backing to make their quilts more unique!

Beginning Piecing and Quilting Level 2: Nov. 9th and 16th, from 10-3:30pm:

Laurie Johnson will continue to teach her students the best practices of piecing and quilting in this level 2 class. This class is for those who have completed level 1, or the equivalent, and would like to make a small-sized quilt, while learning more quilting skills and improving on the ones they learned in level 1. The cost is $60 for 2 sessions.

Holiday Click-It Bag Class is on Thursday, Dec. 14 from 10-3pm:

Come join us in making these cute Click-It Bags! They are fun, easy and functional! They make great gift bags for the holidays, and you can stuff them with gifts for sewing, make-up, art, or whatever the recipent likes! Ruth Shields is the teacher and the cost is $30.

Holiday Foundation Paper Piecing Class, Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 10-3pm:

Barbara Carlston will be here to help you make another holiday paper piecing quilt block to hang on your cute block holder! She helped students make the pumpkin blocks last month. This month you can choose between the Christmas tree or the snowman to make in class. Of course, you can purchase both patterns! Make one for Christmas, and the snowman for January. The cost is $35, plus the pattern and supplies. If you haven't purchased a 12" block holder yet, we have those availabel as well.

3 Yard Quilt Class: Curve Appeal, Thursday, November 21 from 10:30-3:30pm:

Our popular 3 yard quilt class is taking a turn, or shall we say a "curve!" Betty Kisbey will be here to instruct you on this curved quilt from the new Fabric Cafe Book called "Curve Appeal." The cost is $48.99, which includes the pattern book.

My Grown-Up and Me: Stockings: Thursday. Nov. 21 from 4-6 pm:

This month our junior sewists will be joining us in making stockings for foster youth, sponsored by CASA.  The cost is only $5 this month, to cover the cost of the pattern and fat quarter. Marcie Morrill and Donna Bengle, our great teachers for this class, are donating their time this month to support this great cause. Students will donate their stockings at the end of class, but be able to make one of their own once they get home, as they will have the pattern!

This month's Make-It, Take-It Class is on a Saturday, and we will spend the whole day making several holiday gift items.
