Happy March! I hope you are fairing well in the blustery start to March we are having! But when the weather is cold, it's great for sewing and quilting inside! We have lots of new fabric and patterns for you to choose from and new classes, too!
March Classes
We have lots of fun classes and clubs for you again this month!
Intro to 3 yard Quilts: Tuesday, March 5, 10:30-3:30
Betty Kisbey will be here to introduce and teach you about these fun and easy 3 yard quilts. She will guide you through the instructions and give you tips to making these quilts that are all the rage these days. Fabric Cafe has published several books of 3 yard quilts. We will be working out of "Quilts in a Jiffy" for this class. The cost is $30 plus the book ($45.99 plus tax).
School Of Sewing Level 3: Tuesdays in March, 5:30-8:30pm
Our School of Sewing class continues with level 3. This is the conslusion of the series for those who have competed levels 1 and 2. Rita Traxler will be here to instruct the students on new sewing skills each week. In this level, the students will make a tote bag, a pleated purse, placemats and a dresden plate pincushion. Cost is $125.
Duffel Bag/ Get Of Of Town Bag Class: Thursday, March 7, 10-3:30pm
Ruth Shields will be here to instruct you on either of these bags you would like to make. Both of these are "By Annie" travel bags. The Duffel bag is larger, but both bags are great for travel. The class is $40 plus the pattern and supplies. We have the supplies you need to make the bags, including lots of great fabric to choose from.
One Block Wonder: Saturday, March 9, 10-3 and Saturday, March 16, 10-3pm:
Sue Hoffman will be teaching this amazing quilt! It's a One Block Wonder, Kaleidescope, or Whack and Stack, whatever you like to call it. Sue has made several, and she has instructed many on how to make this style of quilt. She has a powerpoint presentation to show the participants, and she will help you through the steps to make it over two days. The cost is $60 plus supplies.
Easter Dress Class: Tuesday, March 12, 10-3pm:
Isn't this just the sweetest little dress for your little one? Ashlee Swain is the instructor, and she will provide the pattern for this easy dress to make. She says it goes together so quickly! The cost is $30 plus supplies.
Easter Basket Class: Thursday, March 14, 10-3 pm:
Won't this basket be perfect for the little one wearing the cute Easter dress above? There are two sizes of baskets to choose from. One size is perfect for your little one to collect eggs, the other one is larger and great for your Easter table display. Ashlee Swain will be the teacher for this class as well. The cost is $30 plus supplies.
Make-It Take-It Evening Class: Chicken Pincushion: March 14, 5:30-8pm:
This is our monthly Make-It, Take-It gathering. Come make our chicken pincushion while enjoying great company and dinner, too! The cost is $30. You will need to bring 3 - 5" squares of fabric and a funnel. I will provide the crushed walnut shells for the filling.
Ombre Bargello Quilt: Wednesday, March 20, 10-4:30pm:
Master Quilter Yvonne Phenecie will be here to help you make this unique and colorful quilt design. We have several ombre fabrics to choose from, both two-tone and three-tone, along with some amazing Kaffe fabric to complete your project. Don't miss being taught by this experienced quilter. The cost of the class is $45 plus a $10 pattern from Yvonne (The pattern will be available for purchase from Yvonne on the day of the class).
Linda Ballard's Harmony Square: Saturday, March 23, 10-3 pm:
Linda Ballard, from Let's Quilt, will be back to teach us "Harmony Square." Linda Ballard is a well-known quilt teacher who hosts several classes and retreats throughout the year. We are so happy to have her here at Sew Katie Jean! She always teaches new techniques for making your quilting experience more productive and efficient. The cost is $60 for this one day class, which includes her pattern.
My Grown-Up and Me Class: Easter Egg Pillow: Thursday, March 28, 10-2pm:
Our teachers, Donna Bengle and Marcie Morrill, will be here again to instruct you on making this quilt-as-you-go style pillow. This class is for children 8-18 years accompanied by a grown-up who knows how to sew. We will be making this cute and colorful, large Easter Egg pillow. The cost is $55 and includes all of the supplies to make it.
Beginning Piecing And Quilting Level 2: Saturday, March 30 and April 6, 10-3pm
This class is the continuation of our Beginning Piecing and Quilting series, after completion of level 1 with Laurie Johnson. Laurie Johnson will continue to instruct you on more beginning quilting skills, while you make this small-sized "dream quilt." Cost is $60 for the two-day class.

Block of the Months/Sew Alongs:
Bridle Path: Pick up is the first Saturday of each month.
Tinsel Wool Applique: Pick up is the second Saturday of the month.
Barn Star Shop Hop Block of the Month: Month 3 destination is Sew Simple in Redding, California
Lori Holt Hometown Sew-Along: Check-in will be Monday, March 18 from 6-9 pm. Cost $10
Christmas Row-by-Row "Woodland Birds": Starts in June. Sign-ups will be coming soon. If you would like us to call you when sign-ups are online, please call the store and get on the list. This is an intermedaite Level BOM that lasts for 6 months. You will be done piecing the quilt in October, so it will be ready to enjoy for Christmas. Price TBD when fabric arrives in May.
Special Events Coming Up:
Yuba Sutter Valley Quilt Guild Quilt Show, March 9&10: Sew Katie Jean will be at the Yuba-Sutter Valley Quilt Guild show on Saturday and Sunday. We will have special deals on precut fabric, and we will be bringing new kits, precuts, and notions for you to choose from.
National Quilting Day, Saturday, 3/16: Sew Katie Jean is sponsoring a National Quilting Day event on March 16 in Beerman's Plaza from 10-3 pm. Come out and see several beautiful quilts and meet some of our local guilds who will have booths displaying opportunity quilts and some of their beautiful creations will be for sale. Our very own MaryJo will also have a booth with her aprons supporting Captain Joseph House.
St. Patrick's Day Special, Saturday 3/16: Receive a free fat quarter of St. Patrick's Day fabric when you make a purchase on this day before St. Patty's Day!
Quilt Rush 2024, Wednesday, April 10 through Sunday April 14: Sew Katie Jean, along with 9 other nearby quilt stores, will be putting on this annual shop hop. This year's theme is "Reach for the Stars." We have 10 prize baskets to win, daily gift card drawings, and the grand prize is a sewing machine. Each shop wll also give away a free fat sixth of fabric and a Villa Rosa pattern. A great kit will be available for purchase at each shop, featuring star fabric. The hours will be 10-6pm Wed.-Sat., and 10-3 on Sunday.
