Class Policies:

We love having classes at Sew Katie Jean and inviting a variety of talented instructors into our classroom to teach our customers. In order to keep the high quality of instructors and classes, we have instituted the following class policies:
1) Prepayment holds your place in class.
2) There are no refunds for no-shows.
3) A refund in the form of a store credit will be given for a cancellation made up to 1 week prior to the first date of the first session of the class. There are no refunds on class supplies. 
4) If a cancellation is necessary within 1 week of class, out of courtesy to the instructor  and other participants, please let us know so the instructor can start on time and have the correct number of handouts.
5) Some instructors require a minimum number of students. The minimum number of students will be listed in the class description. If the minimum is not met, participants will be notified at least 3 days prior to the class, and a full refund will be given for the class fee.


Classes & Clubs


"Nancy Mayer is coming to teach the Laura Heine method of collage in a three-part class. She has taught in quilt shops throughout Oregon and we're so happy to have her come teach here at Sew Katie Jean once again! You will decide which Laura Heine pattern you want to make. We have ordered an assortment of her patterns, or you may use a pattern that you have at home, but never had a chance to make. The fee for this class is $120. for the three days.

Are you familiar with 3 yard quilts? This month we are using the Fabric Cafe's newest book "Make It Scrappy" to use some of our scraps! You will still need 3 yards of fabric, but you can use your stash and maybe a a yard or two from Sew Katie Jean. Come see how Betty Kisbey instructs us in using our scraps in these fun quilts.

Learn to piece and quilt step by step while making a small lap quilt. You will learn lots of techniques from choosing your fabric, to piecing, sandwiching your quilt and quilting it and binding it.

Have you been learning how to free motion quilt, but need some help actually doing free motion quilting on a real project? Well, this is the class for you! This class is specially designed for beginning free motion quilters who want a little guidance on actually usually the free motion techniques on a quilt project. You will be making a Fall table runner ahead of time, bringing it to class and discussing what free motion motifs would work best on your project. Loretta Saenz has designed this class for demonstration, discussion, and lots of time for application.

Once you have taken Beginning FMQ1 you are ready to expand your library of FMQ motifs! FMQ 2 continues to focus on skill building and developing confidence. We will continue to explore motifs based on the circle, the half circle, swirls and more. Design discussion will include when and where each motif might be useful in your own quilt creations.

Grandeur is a traditional Medallion Style Quilt. The pattern is designed by Deb Heatherly, using Creative Grids Tools: 6" Log Cabin Trim Tool and the Hunter's Star Trim Tool. The designer uses a variety of values to make a stunning array of colors, especially in the log cabin. The distinct contrast in the remaining colors makes for the breathtaking "grandeur" of the quilt.

Come make this fun, functional, and easy Table runner with our large selection of toweling! You can make the size that fits your table runner. or even make placemats! Dinner is included. We will have a fun night creating together!

Come make a handy tote for your mini iron. You can pack your iron up in this tote while it is still cooling off, no need to wait. If you would like to make the full-size tote instead, the pattern is an additional $5 to cover the additional ironing board fabric included.

This month we are offering a Grown-Up and Me class for young people age 8 and above to come and learn to make a sun hat. We also invite individuals who are young at heart. The cost is $30 plus supplies.

During this 2-day class, the junior sewists and their sewing grown-ups will tackle a quilt from start to finish! Our teachers, Marcie Morrill and Donna Bengle will be here to teach the kids how to measure and cut, sew, sandwich, quilt and bind their own quilts.

Come spend a relaxing Summer evening sewing in our Sewing Room at Sew Katie Jean. We are having a pajama party, ordering pizza and sewing. We will have prizes and games, too! Bring whatever project you want to work on.

This is a 12 Month Program. We will travel across the United States as we make this beautiful Road Trip Adventure Quilt. The pattern is by Kate Colleran and Tammy Silvers. Each month has a new block featuring a new technique, with opportunities for you to learn new methods. The finished quilt is 60" inch x 74” inch. Participants will pick up their quilt kit and receive instruction on the current block the first Saturday of each month from 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. We are looking forward to another great adventure with you!

Do you want to learn how to sew? Learn how to use your machine? This is the class for you! This is a 4 week class where you learn the basics of sewing and you will make a project each week! The four projects are a draw string bag, a pillowcase, an apron and a zipper pouch. This new class is a prerequisite for our beginning quilting classes. When you finish this class, we also offer Level 2 School of Sewing with 4 more projects. This class is for individuals who are 16 years and older.

This is part 2 of the School of Sewing. It is a 4 part class, continuing on in the book with 4 more projects. In this session, you will learn skills to help you make a zip-it pillow, an essential tote bag, a pleated purse and placemats. The prerequisite for this class is level 1. This class is for individuals who are 16 years and older.

Have you taken the Intro to Paper Piecing Class, and want something new to try out your new skill on? or do you know how to Foundation Paper Piece, but need a new project? This Nautical Crab is the class for you! Barbara Carlston will be here to guide you through this cute and slightly challenging pattern.

Rita Traxler has made a business out of creating custom t-shirt quilts for her clients. Now, she is going to share her knowledge of creating these beautiful family heirlooms with us! So gather those t-shirts and come make a quilt with us!

This is a 7 session wool block of the month. Robyn Babb will instruct you on the basics of wool applique using the Sue Spargo method. This block of the month includes a class and a kit. Registration is $155, which includes the pattern book and embellishment thread pack. You will also need to purchase the Sue Spargo Creative Stitching book, as well as Ellana wool threads for whip stitching down the wool pieces.

This class will offer a compilation of several star quilt patterns collected from several sources. We will cover 5-6 patterns each month over 7 months. You are to select the patterns you want to make and put the blocks into your own quilt design. There will be 22 patterns 12” finished and 10 patterns 6” finished. You may choose to make some or all of the patterns.

Maria Stack, who will be back to teach a new pattern for a summer dress. It is the June Sheath Dress by Style Arc. She will be instructing you on how to cut and size the patterns to fit perfectly. In this class, you will be making a light and simple women's dress perfect for the summer months. The class includes the pattern from Style Arc and the AO printing of the pattern.

This is a monthly sew day for those interested in working on their Lori Holt projects. Lori Holt is known for her vintage quilt and sewing patterns. Ashlee Swain is the club coordinator and she will be on hand to help if you have questions. We have reserved the third Tuesday of every month, and there is room for 13 people including Ashlee. You can register/pay online or call the shop at 530-450-5462.

Come join us for our monthly Sew Day to work on our Villa Rosa projects. Not familiar with Villa Rosa patterns? We have a whole collection of patterns for you to choose from that make quilt-making easy. The Club will meet the 1st Wednesday of each month. Karen Mullins will be our host and can help with you with any questions or guidance you need with your Villa Rosa pattern/project.

Bring your hand-sewing, either your wool applique or your embroidery projects, and join Diana Meier for a day of sewing together. Bring your embroidery, applique, binding, hand-quilting or any handwork and come sew with friends. The cost is $10. This club meets the 4th Tuesday of every month.

Have you taken a Laura Heine Collage Class from Sew Kate Jean over the last 3 years? We would like to invite you back for a Laura Heine Reunion! We have been talking about doing this and many of you have asked, so here we go! Bring your Laura Heine project, finished or not, for show and tell. Come enjoy friends, food, sharing and conversation. Nancy will be here for a class this week, and her students will be on day two. Please RSVP so I know how many snacks to get.
