Class Policies:

We love having classes at Sew Katie Jean and inviting a variety of talented instructors into our classroom to teach our customers. In order to keep the high quality of instructors and classes, we have instituted the following class policies:
1) Prepayment holds your place in class.
2) There are no refunds for no-shows.
3) A refund in the form of a store credit will be given for a cancellation made up to 1 week prior to the first date of the first session of the class. There are no refunds on class supplies. 
4) If a cancellation is necessary within 1 week of class, out of courtesy to the instructor  and other participants, please let us know so the instructor can start on time and have the correct number of handouts.
5) Some instructors require a minimum number of students. The minimum number of students will be listed in the class description. If the minimum is not met, participants will be notified at least 3 days prior to the class, and a full refund will be given for the class fee.


Classes & Clubs


This is part 2 of the School of Sewing. It is a 4 part class, continuing on in the book with 4 more projects. In this session, you will learn skills to help you make a zip-it pillow, an essential tote bag, a pleated purse and placemats. The prerequisite for this class is level 1. This class is for individuals who are 16 years and older.

Cost: $ 140.00
Nancy Mayer is coming to teach the Laura Heine method of collage in a three-part class. She has taught in quilt shops throughout Oregon, and we're so happy to have her come come back to Sew Katie Jean once again! You will decide which Laura Heine pattern you want to make. We have an assortment of her patterns, or you may use a pattern that you already have.

Unlock your creativity and elevate your quilting skills in this hands-on FMQ class! In Beginning FMQ, you will learn the basics of good quilting habits, along with good ergonomics, as you are introduced to a variety of FMQ motifs. Topics covered will include: designs based on freehand lines and circles, marking a quilt top, ideas for practicing and putting the newly learned motifs to work on your quilts.

Cost: $ 50.00
Learn to piece and quilt step by step while making a small lap quilt. You will learn lots of techniques from choosing your fabric, to piecing, sandwiching your quilt and quilting it and binding it.

In this class for beginners, you will be building on the skills you learned in the Level 1 class. We will be reviewing the “Best Practices” for piecing a quilt top. There are 9 different blocks and sashing and borders, where more skills will be built upon. This class is a sixth month commitment, and participants will need to keep a credit card on file to be billed monthly for the class.

Need a catch-all tote for sewing supplies, traveling, or other hobbies? This is the class for you! This class is an intermediate level, for those participants who have experience making "By Annie" bags. You can choose from three different sizes/patterns: Road Trip, Caddy, Catch-All Caddy or In Control. The largest is the Road Trip and the smallest is the "In Control."

This is a 10 month Block of the Month from Sue Spargo. Follow Sue through the meadowlands and meet the nine critters and their mystery friends. The program runs from Sept.-April 2026. Participants can register for the BOM, and then we keep a credit card on file to bill monthly on the first of each month-the cost monthly is $34.

Come join us in making this foundation paper piecing quilt class using the "BeColourful" techniques. Flora Blue is a remake of Flora Bella, created by Jacqueline de Jonge. It finishes at 68"x68". Tori Johnson is a trained instructor, who will be here to instruct you on this strikingly beautiful quilt.

This is a 2-day class for intermediate level, free motion quilters. You should have taken at least levels 1 and 2 of free motion quilting at Sew Katie Jean or the equivalent. You will take the next step in free motion quilting using rulers! Loretta Saenz will be the instructor, teaching you how to use 7 different rulers, including the straight ruler, Spin-E-Fex (11-5 1/2, and 10-1 1/2-2 1/2), simple semi-circles, arc template, Crosshair 8.5"-8 point, and a single 3" heart.

Once you have taken Beginning FMQ1and FMQ 2, you are ready to expand your library of motifs to half circles. In FMQ 3, classic designs such as Rainbow and Pebble Rainbow will be taught. The natural progression to the half circle is an introduction to designs organized into grid patterns e.g. the Clamshell grid. This adds a new look to the quilting and designs. As with FMQ 1 and 2, attention will be paid to design theory and how to combine motifs into quilt creations. will include when and where each motif might be useful in your own quilt creations.

Join us for another Fabric Cafe Class, this time featuring their newer book called "Make-It Home." In this class, Betty Kisbey will be the instructor, and she will guide you in making these lovely table runners and placemats for your home or to gift.

Let's have some fun with Valentine Fabric! We will be making origami drawstring bags. You can use Valentine fabric and fill it with treats for your favorite valentine, or use any cute fabric. All you need is two fat quarters. I will provide white or red grosgrain ribbon, if you wish to use a different color, you will need 44 inches. We will have heart-shaped pizza and salad for dinner.

This month we are offering a Grown-Up and Me class for young people age 8 and above to come and learn a new sewing skill called "raw-edge applique." The kids will make a cute pup, choosing various fabrics and using steam a seam to apply the applique. Students will learn to sew around shapes to applique. Finished blocks can be made into a pillow, wall hanging or sewn onto a tote bag! We also invite individuals who are young at heart.

It's time for our quarterly PJ Sewing Party! Come join us for a fun night of sewing in our PJs, eating pizza and snacks, playing a few games and winning prizes.

This is a 12 Month Program. We will travel across the United States as we make this beautiful Road Trip Adventure Quilt. The pattern is by Kate Colleran and Tammy Silvers. Each month has a new block featuring a new technique, with opportunities for you to learn new methods. The finished quilt is 60" inch x 74” inch. Participants will pick up their quilt kit and receive instruction on the current block the first Saturday of each month from 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. We are looking forward to another great adventure with you!

Barbara Carlston will be here to teach another cute seasonal block.This is a foundation paper piecing class for those who have learned the technique. This class is for advanced beginners or above. If you are interested in learning how to paper piece, we have an Introduction to Paper Piecing Class.

This is a monthly sew day for those interested in working on their Lori Holt projects. Lori Holt is known for her vintage quilt and sewing patterns. Ashlee Swain is the club coordinator and she will be on hand to help if you have questions. We have reserved the third Tuesday of every month, and there is room for 13 people including Ashlee. You can register/pay online or call the shop at 530-450-5462.

Come join us for our monthly Sew Day to work on our Villa Rosa projects. Not familiar with Villa Rosa patterns? We have a whole collection of patterns for you to choose from that make quilt-making easy. The Club will meet the 1st Wednesday of each month. Karen Mullins will be our host and can help with you with any questions or guidance you need with your Villa Rosa pattern/project.

Bring your hand-sewing, either your wool applique or your embroidery projects, and join Diana Meier for a day of sewing together. Bring your embroidery, applique, binding, hand-quilting or any handwork and come sew with friends. The cost is $10. This club meets the 4th Tuesday of every month.
